Sultan Osman III was born on January 2, 1699 in Istanbul. His father is Sultan Mustafa II and his mother is Åžehsuvar Valide Sultan. Åžehsuvar Valide Sultan is Russian. He had a nervous nature as he lived a prison life in the palace until the age of 56 when he ascended the throne. However, he was a compassionate and merciful person, who did not particularly like lies and bribery. As Sultan Osman III hated music, he drove all musicians away from the palace. While he was walking around the palace, he did not want to meet the concubines, so he had iron heels attached to his shoes.

 Hearing the sound of the heels, the concubines learned that the sultan was coming and were getting out of the way. His reign lasted for 2 years, 10 months, 18 days, during which seven viziers were changed, and there was peace and tranquility both inside and outside during his reign.It is known that Sultan Osman III changed clothes from time to time and mingled with the people. He died on October 30, 1757, due to a disease caused by a boil on his body. His body was buried in Yeni Mosque, next to Sultan Mahmud I.


Political Developments :

The peace process that started after the Belgrade agreement signed in 1739 during the reign of Sultan Osman III continued. Immigrants from Romania were settled in the new Serbian province. Again, two castles were built in this region for a possible war with the Russians. The Slave State gained dominance in Egypt. In addition, Ottoman domination weakened in Algeria. A fortress and a lighthouse were built in the port of Sığri on the island of Lesbos against the Maltese pirates who attacked the Ottoman merchant ships.


Zoning Studies (Architecture) :

Among the works left behind by the sultan, the famous Nur-i Osmaniye Mosque, which he gave his name, which was started to be built during the reign of his elder brother Sultan Mahmud and was completed during his reign (December 5, 1755). Other works made during the reign of Sultan Osman III are as follows; Aydın Cihanoğlu Mosque and Ahırkapı Lighthouse .
