Sultan Murad V was born on September 21, 1840 in Istanbul. His father is Sultan Abdülmecid and his mother is Åževk-Efza Kadın Efendi. His mother is Circassian. Sultan Murad V received a good education and learned French in his childhood and youth. Because he was very interested in reading, he brought books from France and read them constantly. He was very interested in literature.

 Sultan Murad V established close friendships with many poets of the period, including Ziya Pasha and Namık Kemal. Sultan Murad V, who was under the influence of foreign cultures, played the piano. He even composed compositions in Western music style. Sultan Murad the Fifth, who became friends with European princes and corresponded with them, always kept local and foreign newspapers around him. Sultan Murad V, who was fascinated by seeing Europe closely during his European trip with Sultan Abdulaziz, established a close friendship with the Welsh Prince (later King Edward VII), whom he met in England during this trip.

 Sultan Murad V, who became a freemason under the influence of the Welsh Prince, was a very prodigal and ambitious person. He openly said that he was waiting for his uncle's death to become a sultan. Sultan Murad V became the sultan on 30 May 1876, replacing the deposed Sultan Abdulaziz. However, the hope of the intellectuals who wanted the establishment of a constitutional monarchy to save the Ottoman Empire and brought a ruler they trusted to the throne with this thought was dashed. He was deposed from the Ottoman throne, where he remained for 93 days, on 31 August 1876. Sultan Murad V, who lived in the palace for 28 more years, died on August 29, 1904 and was buried in the tomb of his mother, Åževk-Efza Kadın Efendi, in Yeni Mosque.
