 Akca Koca History :


Although the first settlement date of Akçakoca, which has hosted many civilizations throughout history, is not known precisely; the first to arrive in the region. It was Track and Frickler in 1200 tariq. The Fricks, weakened by the Cimmerian and Scythian currents, were eliminated by the Lydians and established the Lydian Kingdom.

          The great and mighty Persian Empire was established in 708B.C. They founded the cities of Abanutikus, Sinope, Eolya, Heraclia, Kieros and Dias on the Black Sea coasts of Bolu and its surroundings.


          In 333 B.C, Macedonian King Alexander the Great defeated the Persians on the Dörtyol plain and dominated Anatolia. BC in Babylon When he died in 323, the dynasty was dissolved and the inheritance was divided among the generals; Eight states were established and the Hellenistic era began.


           Bias, the first king of the Bithynia Kingdom between 377 – 74 B.C years; its center was Astakos at first and then Nicomedia (Izmit). In 91 – 74 B.C, Bithynia was completely given to Rome. In 74 B.C, Roman Consul Lucullus Mihtridata ordered the Black Sea commander Cotta to destroy Heracliea, Diapolis, Alaplı in retaliation.


           The navy of Mithridat, the king of Potnos, was caught in a storm in the Black Sea and took refuge in the Melen Stream, and went to Heraclia by land via Diapolis. With the departure of Mithridat forces from the region, Roman forces entered Bithynia; Antonius gave Heraklia to the Galatian prince Adriotorik, and even the names of the region, which remained in Latin culture, were changed.


           In 395, the Roman Empire was divided into two, and Eastern Bithynia was called Honoriat. Its center is Klodiopolis (Bolu), its main cities are Prusias (üskibi), Diapolis (Akçakoca).


           In 1204, the fourth Crusader armies settled in the city of Istanbul and ruled by establishing the Latin Empire. The Genoese settled on the shores of the Black Sea and repaired the existing castles by establishing trade and sea sites in the previously established cities of Diapolis, Herakliea and Amesus. Although the castle in Akçakoca is referred to as the Genoese Castle, this place belongs to the city of Diapolis, which was founded by Greek immigrants long ago. In 1261, the Byzantines ended the Latin domination and declared their sovereignty again.

           The arrival of the first Turks to Akçakoca and its region begins in 1085. 1077 – 1086 49 principalities were established in Anatolia during the Seljuk period; Of these, the Iznik Principality (Bolu – Kocaeli – Bursa) included Bithynia. The Seljuk Anatolian State entered the Mongol administration in 1255 and ended with the death of Mesut in 1308.


           Byzantium was going through hard times between 1285 and 1338. They did not have the power to stop the Turkish raids. Most of the cities of Bithynia fell into the hands of the Turks. Diapolis in 1319, Prusias in 1323, and Cladiapolis in 1324 were captured by Orhan Gazi and Konuralp and joined the borders of the Ottoman Principality.


          During the Ottoman Empire, the region was administered by Akçakoca Bey, a friend of Osman Gazi, and the name Diapolis, given by the Byzantines, was changed to Akçaşar. 18th century It was changed to Şar - City and took the name Akçaşehir. With the proclamation of the Republic in 1923, Bolu became a province, Düzce became a district, and Akçaşehir became a township according to the Law of Organization.


While it was a township on June 23, 1934, it was turned into a district and the name of Akçaşehir was changed  to AKÇAKOCA  on September 7, 1934, referring to the name of Akçakoca Bey, who captured the region.
